2021 Roseville Raider Hall of Fame

On October 8, five alumni and a former coach of our district were inducted into the 2021 Roseville Raider Hall of Fame, where they were congratulated by SuperintendentJenny Loeckand RAHS Principal Chris Hester.The Hall of Fame program recognizes and pays tribute to former athletes, former coaches and community members who have displayed outstanding athletic abilities or have made exceptional contributions to our school district's athletic programs.

This year's inductees included Amy Beggin('06),Winny Brodt Brown ('96), Mark Devine ('92), Marty Sertich ('01), Kent Bo Smith ('58), and Mark Sotebeer. Their profiles are below, showcasing their talents and contributions in and out of school.

Amy Beggin

Amy Beggin currently resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is a 2006 graduate of Roseville Area High School. Amy was a three-sport standout in high school playing basketball, softball and soccer. Her favorite high school memory was beating Centennial in the first round of the basketball state tournament and beating Cretin Derham Hall in front of a packed gym to help with the conference championship.

Amy was the 2006 Lions Club Athlete of the year, the 2006 Athena Award winner in Roseville for the most outstanding female student-athlete. She was also on the All-State Academic team in 2006 with a 3.8 GPA. She was a six-year letter winner in soccer and a 2005 all-state selection, and she served as a captain her last two seasons with the Raiders soccer team. In softball, Amy was a three-time all-stateselection, three-timeall-conference selection, four-time letter winner, and was a 2003 section champion.

Where Amy really carved out her athletic career was in basketball, where Amy was a three-timeall-state selection, a four-timeall-conference, four-year letter winner a two-time section champion. The Raiders won the conference championship in 2006, where they went on to take fourth place in state that year. Amy was named to the all-tournament team that year as well. Amy was a finalist for the Minnesota MissBasketball award, which rewards the top basketball player in the state.

Following her high school career, Amy went on to have a decorated career at the University of New Mexico. She was a four-year letter winner, a two-timeNCAA tournament participant, three-timeall-mountainwest, three-timeAcademic all-mountainwest, three-time team MVP. She is the University of New Mexico record holder for minutes playedin a season (1,304), minutes played in her career (2,335), and most three-pointers made in consecutive games (23). She was inducted into the University of New Mexico Hall of Fame in 2019.

Winny Brodt Brown

Winny Brodt Brown currently resides in Roseville. She lives with her husband Justin, and her two sons, Weston and Branson. Winny was also a three-sport standout while at Roseville, playing soccer, golf and hockey. Her favorite high school memory was winning the Girls State High School Hockey Championship her senior year at the State Fair Coliseum.

In soccer, Winny was a four-timeletter winner for the Raiders. They advanced to the state tournament her freshman and senior seasons. She served as a team captain her senior year. In golf, Winny was a five-timeletter winner. She made appearances in the golf state tournament her eighth, ninth, 11th, and 12th-grade seasons. She was a multi-year all-conference selection and a senior captain.

Winny’s most successful sport in high school was hockey. She was a multiple all-conference selection, multiple all-state selections and won the state hockey tournament her senior year. She was voted as Ms. Hockey her senior season, which awards Minnesota’s top hockey player in the entire state.

Following high school, Winny continued her hockey career at University of New Hampshire where they won a National Championship in 1998, and Winny was voted the most valuable player in the National Championship Tournament. She then transferred to Minnesota where she played a key role in securing the National Championship in 2000, which was the first national championship title in Golden Gopher Women's Hockey history. She was the WSHA defensive player of the year, all-WCHS first team, and a top 10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award that goes to the top female hockey player in college.

Winny was a member of the 2000, 2001and 2003 USA Women'sNational Team who won the world championships. She currently plays professionally for the Minnesota White Caps and helped the team win the 2019 Isobel Cup.

Mark Devine

Mark Devinegraduated from Roseville Area High School in 1992. Mark currently resides in Maplewood. He and his wife have six children. Mark's favorite high school memory is winning the 1991 state gymnastics meet. They beat their rivals, the Edina Hornets, and it was the last meet for men’s gymnastics in the state of Minnesota. So, the Roseville Raiders and the 1991 team remain the defending state champions.

Mark had a decorated high school career, winning multiple state championships both as a team and individually, in multiple sports. In gymnastics, Mark and his team won the 1991 team state championship. He won state multiple times in individual events. He was a four-timeall-conferenceselection, four-time all-state selections, and a two-timeAll-America selection. He also served as the team captain for the gymnastics team. Mark was also a standout for the track team as a pole vault athlete. He was all-conference numerous times and won the state Pole Vault Championship in 1991 and repeated as state champion again in 1992. He also held the state pole vault record. In 1992 he was voted as the male athlete of the year at Roseville Area High School.

After high school, Mark went on to the University of Minnesota to compete in track and field. Mark also served as the president of the Sunrise Rotary Club in St. Paul from 2004-2005. He currently owns and operates two companies in St. Paul.

Marty Sertich

Marty Sertichcurrently resides in Edina with his wife and children. Marty graduated from Roseville Area High School in 2001. Marty was a three-sport athlete while at RAHS. He participated in tennis, hockeyand baseball. His favorite high school memory is meeting his wife Becker Tucker, also a Roseville graduate in 2001. Marty is one of the most decorated hockey players to ever come out of Roseville.

While playing for the Roseville tennis team, Marty was a multiple all-conference selection and participated in the 1999 Tennis state championships both as a single player and as a double’s player. While playing hockey at Roseville he found team and individual success. In 1999, the team won the Twin Cities Suburban East championship. In 2001, Marty was voted as the metro player of the year. In 2001, he also won the Mr. Hockey award in Minnesota that goes to the single best player in the state of Minnesota, which translates to being one of the best players in the nation.

After high school, Marty played for Colorado College where he continued his storied career. Sertich dressed for every game in his career and as a junior he led the entire nation in scoring,winning the Hobey Baker Award that goes to the best college hockey player in the country. In 2005, he and his team qualified for the Frozen Four national championships. He was also awarded All-WCHA first team and was voted as the USA Hockey college player of the year in 2005. In 2006, his senior year, he was again a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. Following his outstanding college career, Marty signed with the Dallas Stars and had a 10-year professional hockey career.

He was part of the St. Thomas staff that guided the 2018-2019 Tommies to a late-season number onenational ranking, a school-record 25 victories, and a D-III frozen four appearance.

Kent Bo Smith

Bo Smithcurrently resides in St. Paul.Bo graduated high school in 1958 where he was a three-sport athlete, participating in cross country, basketball and track and field. When asked about his favorite high school memory, he said there are too many to rank. He enjoyed hanging out with chums at Wally’s Wagon Wheel restaurant. Attending his first Drake Relays as a spectator, playing in the state basketball tournament, and painting the Mankato water tower on his graduation night.

While in high school, he was a member of National Honor Society andstudent council. He was a captain of his cross country team, and qualified for three state championship meets. In basketball, Bo was a standout and his team took fourth place in the state tournament. He was also a track and field captain and qualified for two state championship meets.

Bo has a storied career as a coach as well. He has coached track at Roseville for 34 years and has helped many athletes become conference, sectionand state champions. Prior to Roseville he coached at Glencoe for fouryears and was region coach of the year twice. Bo was an assistant coach on the 1968 boys state champions for cross country. Bo started the girls cross country program here at Roseville and coached that team from 1979 - 2001. In that time they won six conference championships, 13 section championships and one individual state champion.

When asked if he would like to include any other information he had this to say, “I have declined all of Coach Sotebeer’s many invitations to either go fishing or survive a golf outing with him.”

Mark Sotebeer:

Mark Sotebeerattended and graduated from Osseo High School in 1970. While in high school, Mark was a standout football player who signed to play football with the Golden Gophers. Mark's favorite high school memory was his senior football season, his team, and defense set multiple state records. In their 9-0 record his senior year, they shut out seven of those teams. Not allowing a point in over 30 quarters of football. As a result, they won the conference championship.

After his playing days, Mark decided he wanted to teach and coach high school students. He was a physical education and health teacher in Roseville for 36 years. In That time he coached football, basketball, and track and field.

He had a very successful head coaching career for Roseville Area Schools. He was our head football coach for 10 years, and in that time they won the conference championship three times. In track and field, Mark was a head coach for 31 years. In that time they won sixconference championships, 13 section championships, two MSHSLstate team championships and threeteam runner ups. In his time as a head coach, more than 300 girls placed in the state championship meet. That is not a typo --more than 300!

He was voted as Minnesota Head coach of the year in 1988 and 2010.
